# Dead stock

> Find inventory that hasn't sold in a long time and is tying up capital, by variant, size, and shop.

**Dead stock** surfaces inventory that has sat unsold for a long time — capital locked up
on the shelf — so you can clear it.

## How it's measured

Based on **days since the last sale**, evaluated at the finest grain that matters for
fashion retail: **variant × size × shop**. (Size XL dead in Lyon is a different problem
from size M selling in Paris.) Only items with stock on hand are considered.

## Status tiers

| Status | Days since last sale |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| **Stale** | 30–59 |
| **Very stale** | 60–89 |
| **Dead** | ≥ 90 — or never sold (shown as **∞**) |

## Where to find it

Add the **Dead stock** table block to a [dashboard](/en/analytics/dashboards). Rows are
sorted by **immobilized value** (the capital tied up first), so the most expensive
problems surface at the top.

## Acting on it

* **[Markdown](/en/inventory-plans/markdown)** — discount to move it (respecting your
  [markdown calendars](/en/intelligence-layer/markdown-calendars) and margin guards).
* **[Rebalance](/en/inventory-plans/rebalance)** — send it to a shop where that
  variant/size actually sells.

<Note>
Dead stock reads your current stock snapshot, so it reflects the latest ingested state —
keep [ingestion](/en/data-layer/ingestion-runs) healthy for accurate figures.
